My gf can't even leave the house without suffering. every time we get in the car and start driving somewhere, we have to turn around and come home. I feel real bad for her but at the same time it's stressful for me.Is there anyone out there with advice on how to treat panic attacks?
She needs to see a psychiatrist. Drug therapy with and SSRI such as Zoloft could help, but she needs to be evaluated. Is there anyone out there with advice on how to treat panic attacks?
It sounds like shes Agoraphobic. I had this problem in high school, I couldnt leave my house for almost 8 months because of my fear of having a panic attack. She needs to see her doctor, he/she can refer your girlfriend to a psychologist or a psychiatrist.

She needs to speak to her doctor. They can give her something to help. I know someone who had a similar problem, but less extreme and they took Zoloft for about a year and have been much better since.
good luck!

My roommate has frequent panic attacks and has self-medicated with alcohol. Of course, with any self-medication involving alcohol, his panic attacks have worsened! He had one driving back up from a wedding and ended up in the ER because he thought he was having a heart attack. The doctor prescribed some Xanax and he felt much better the next few days. Unfortunately, he then went back off them.
She needs to see a clinical psychologist or get evaluated. Anything that interferes with daily activities, such as leaving the house is a serious symptom that needs to be addressed.
If insurance is an issue, go online to find out about mental care facilities and free health clinics that can help her get started. It sounds like she may be nervous about seeking such help (who isn't?) so maybe volunteer to go with her, if she needs some support!
