Is there some advice about repairing an older model Moen kitchen faucet?

When I reassembled the handle (a one handle Moen, not sure how old it is) it will not push the valve stem down far enough to stop the water flow. What was a washer replacement job is turning into a horrow show. any advice? Is there some advice about repairing an older model Moen kitchen faucet?
you have to turn the water off. Then it should work, if not blow the standing water out. Its like a piston in a car, it will go in only so far with water in there then youre trying to compress the water.

slip the little horseshoe clip on it, if the hot is cold and the cold is hot you can swing it around without taking it fully apart. Is there some advice about repairing an older model Moen kitchen faucet?
The handle doesn't push the cartridge back in place. You should be able to push the cartridge with your hands and seat it, then it is retained with a clip to keep it from coming out under pressure. Check to make sure you have the new washers in correctly and that you insert the cartridge in the correct direction. You can also go to moen's website for instructions, available in pdf format.
